During my wives study last night we were discussing the characteristics of a noble wife in Proverbs 31:10-31. It was an awesome experience to sit with other wives and discover how these noble characteristics are still relevant today, and it revealed more about my own character that I still need to work on.
“She rises also while it is still night
And gives food to her household.” – Proverbs 31:15a“She senses that her gain is good;
Her lamp does not go out at night.” – Proverbs 31:18
We began sharing how these verses could reflect our devotion to our husband, in that we don’t necessarily get up early and go to bed late every night, but rather how we should be willing to sacrifice our time to fulfill the needs of our husband. We should do it out of our devotion for Him.
In our study, the following question was asked:
Are you devoted to your husband; are you willing to sacrifice your time to meet his needs?
I immediately answered “NO!”, as I was reminded of an instance no more than an hour before study, where I selfishly snapped at my husband. He had called me while he was on his way home from work, he was in a hurry to come home and asked me to get his camera ready because he needed to take some head shots for a friend. I was frustrated because I was already in the middle of doing something and didn’t have the time to sacrifice for his need. The worst part is that I responded out of my frustration, using an irritated tone, telling him to do it when he gets home.
I could have done one of two things in this situation that would have been a better response: 1.) Say ok and do it, or 2.) Explain how I can’t in a very apologetic tone.
I was wrong in my response. As soon as he arrived home I apologized.
In Genesis, God calls us wives the help mate. That is something I definitely need to remember.
