What Does God Call Us To Be As Women & As Wives?

This video below was a campaign produced by Dove.  It really gets you thinking about all the pressures woman face in today’s culture.

WARNING: There is explicit content in this video – but nothing we are not already exposed to through advertising!

So what pressures do we face as women?

What pressures do we face as wives?

Where do we find our confidence?

Instead of feeling pressured by society or even by our husbands, we need to understand who God calls us to be!  If you are wondering how to figure out who God calls you to be you need to dig into God’s word!

God doesn’t call us to have a perfect body, BUT he does call us to treat our bodies as a temple of the Holy Spirit!

“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power. Do you not know that (your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.” But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” – 1Corinthians 6:12-20

God warns us that beauty if fleeting, encouraging us to reflect His character and to fear Him.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” – Proverbs 31:30

God calls us to be submissive.

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7

God calls us to be righteous.

“But you, (wo)man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” – 1 Timothy 6:11

God calls us to be loving.

“Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”- Matthew 22:37-40

There are plenty more characteristics God calls us to! He desires us and gives us the tools to be virtuous women who uphold biblical standards of truths!  Before we allow society or even marriage pressure us into being a woman, we need to fully KNOW what God calls us to be!  Also, keep in mind that you are setting an example for other little girls around you!  Let’s show them that being GOD-FEARING is more important than vanity!
