What Does God Want Me To Do About My Marriage?

Only God can answer this question for you. He knows you and He knows the details of your marriage.what-does-god-want-marriage

So as you skim online resources, read books, and maybe even reach out for counseling…please understand that the best thing you can do for your marriage is go to the One who designed and established marriage. Go to God in prayer and ask Him the questions you have about marriage…then take time to really listen. He may speak into your heart right away, He may use someone to point you in the right direction, He will definitely urge you to seek His Word…no matter what, be willing to listen.

As a wife, as one who loves God and serves Him passionately, as a person who genuinely cares about you even though we may have never met, I would love to encourage you in your marriage. I don’t know what God wants you to do about your marriage, but if you were in my living room crying because of your circumstance, I would sit beside you with my arm around you and speak the only truth I know…the truth of God’s Word. Then I would offer to pray with you.

I hope that this article inspires you to pray, and lifts your soul from whatever place you are in. I hope my words will act as arms to embrace you and comfort you, and as hands to lift you up and point you toward God!

God loves you very much.

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him”. – 1 John 4:16

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39

God wants you to seek reconciliation and peace.

Leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” – Matthew 5:24

Strive for peace with everyone.” – Hebrews 12:14

God wants you to forgive.

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32

God wants you to repent and turn your heart toward Him.

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” – Matthew 3:2

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9

But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” – 2 Corinthians 3:16-18

God desires you to live a good life and to make wise decisions.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” – Proverbs 12:15

God wants you to pray without ceasing.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

God wants you to trust in Him and His ways, not your own.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

God wants you to never be afraid.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

God desires you to have faith, to believe, to have confidence and hope.

And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.” – Mark 11:22

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” – Hebrews 10:35-36

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” – Romans 15:13

God wants you to love very much.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.” – 1 John 4:7-21

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
