Praying Together In Marriage

Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks. For this is Gods will for you in Christ.

– 1 Thessalonians 5:16

This bible verse was given to me by my husband yesterday. I’m in the hospital again, for the second time this week. I am having blood pressure issues with my 5th baby on the way. At 35 weeks our daughter is not quite ready to be born. Our team of doctors are trying to keep us both as healthy as they can. I asked my husband to come up with a verse that I could meditate on through this rough situation.

We have been through this once before with our son Jack who is 8 years old now. That was a situation that resulted in a very sick premature baby who spent 16 days in the NICU and was the sickest they come. At one point we weren’t sure if he would make it. At the time my husband and I were not grounded in our faith. I felt carried by God the whole time, but my husband and I were on two different planets.

Did we pray together?

No, and unfortunately we just let others pray for us, not with us. It caused us a lot of strain. Now 3 more kids later he came to me and apologized.

“For what?” I asked.

“For not being a very nice man through Jack’s birth.”

I was actually quite taken back. However, today when I was overwhelmingly stressed and in tears,  it was he that grabbed my hand and prayed for me. He wouldn’t have done that 4 years ago let alone 8 years ago. Praying together blessed me! Oh and what a verse. It has seriously become my Rock!

Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks. For this is Gods will for you in Christ.

What a great reminder that God has us right where He wants us. Even right now at 2 am on the Labor and Delivery ward, my God knows what day and what time our sweet little Zoey-Rose will be born. I take comfort in that. As long as I keep my self praying and thanking Him for one more hour that she gets to continue growing inside me, then He will ease my worries and relieve my fears.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for allowing me to share your word and how its comforting to both Robert and I. Be with all the women who read this that may be going through something so difficult. No matter the situation may this encourage them to meditate on You. You are where we get our strength. Thank you for picking us up and carrying us sometimes. Continue to show us your love and guidance through this. In Your sons name,

Amen!
