Paraben-Free Kid Friendly Products I Use For My Children

Since openly taking a stand against harmful ingredients in our personal care products, I have had a few mamas ask me what type of products I use for my babies. I am happy to share!

The skin is the largest organ on the body. The purpose of skin is significant, there is no question about it. Yet, so often the skin gets overlooked. We concern ourselves with what we eat, what we wear, what we use to clean the house…

but are we concerned about the health of our skin? Paraben-Free-Kid-Friendly-Products-I-Use-For-My-Children-1

Back in the day, I was using tons of different personal care products that contained parabens. I never knew the negative affect that specific ingredient was having on my body until God revealed it to my husband and me. You can read my story HERE or a portion of it HERE.

I am an advocate for paraben-free products, however there are many other toxic ingredients in personal care products that should be avoided. Below is a brief list of a handful of toxic ingredients that are no good for our skin and body. For more information on these ingredients and their harmful affects a great site to utilize is: EWG.com/skindeep

  • Phthalates
  • Fragrance
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate/Sodium laureth sulfate
  • Triclosan
  • Formaldehyde
  • Bisphenol A (BPA)
  • Propylene glycol

We must take good care of our skin so that it is able to protect us as God designed and intended it to. This also means that for anyone with children, we are responsible for giving them a great start in life. We need to provide products that are healthy for them and will nourish their skin and body.

We also need to teach our kids why we choose some brands over others and the processes we use to navigate the consumer world of product shelves. We need to train up critical thinkers who will in turn care for the well being of their kids, so that a legacy is left with each rising generation. Let’s start them off right, with healthy, glowing skin!

Here is a list of paraben-free kid friendly personal care products I use for my children:

I made each brand name a link so you could easily find the product and do a bit more research.

shea-shampooShea Moisture Olive and Marula Baby Shampoo & Body Wash

I just recently bought this when I had my baby girl. I love this brand and I really love this scent. Its beautiful! I even use it sometimes on my body.

lotionShea Moisture Olive and Marula Extra-Moisturizing Lotion

This lotion is very thick, but does the job well.

buttpasteBoudreaux All-Natural Buttpaste Diaper Cream

I used this brand of diaper cream with both of my children. If they were red at all, a small dot of this cream takes care of it quickly. This cream is extremely thick, but I like that knowing it is providing a great layer of protection over baby’s skin, especially going through the night with less changes.

baby-balmEarth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm

THIS. I highly recommend this balm. This brand is magical for healing irritated bottoms. It is more like a gel than a cream, which means its not super thick when applied (easy to clean off your finger) and you don’t need to use as much of the product. Another bonus is that it is safe to use with cloth diapering.

bronnersDr. Bronner’s Castile Liquid Soap Baby Mild

I have yet to use this baby mild version, but I have tried the lavender, tea-tree, peppermint and almond. My favorite so far is lavender!

toothpasteJack N Jill Natural Toothpaste

I received this toothpaste as a gift and my son loves it.

babyganicsBabyganics Sunscreen SPF 50

I do not use sunscreen very often, but I do keep this Babyganics on hand during the summer just in case we are in the sun for too long. I use it on myself and the kids. This is another very thick lotion, but protects very well from burns.

diapersTarget Up and Up Disposable Diapers

I tried this brand of diapers with my son after he broke out in a light rash from Pampers. He has sensitive skin just like his Dad! I have never had an issue with sensitivity or absorbency. This brand is not the most natural brand of diapers, but if you are on a budget they are a great choice.

baby-wipesBabyganics Wipes

I try hard to consider the ingredients I put on my body and my children’s bodies, but I’m not perfect. I was using Target Up and Up Wipes for a long time, assuming my glance at the ingredients and seeing they were paraben-free was good enough. As I recently revisited the ingredient list I was disappointed. I found it listed Propylene glycol which is used as a skin conditioning agent but actually strips the skin of natural oils and can irritate the skin.

I will be trying these Babyganics soon. These are an affordable brand that are free of alcohol, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, artificial dyes or fragrances.

honestThe Honest Company Disposable Diapers & Wipes

I have used the Honest diapers and wipes with my daughter and I LOVE them! The diapers feel nice, they are absorbent, they have the cutest designs and very healthy for the baby’s skin. The wipes are just as nice. However, this brand does cost more, but if you can afford it I recommend this brand all the way.

gripe-waterMommy’s Bliss Gripe Water

Gripe water is a must for my kids. They are so gassy in the first few months of life and when it gets really bad, when they are crying from the pain, I give them this and it provides so much relief for them.

sinupretKid’s Sinupret – Respiratory and Immune Support

A pediatrician recommended this and we keep it on hand for colds and coughs.

echinaceaOregon’s Wild Harvest – Children’s Echinacea Goldenseal

We got this recently to help boost my son’s immune system when he came down sick. A few drops in his water and he gulped it down.

HylandsHyland’s Teething Tablets

When my son was teething and feeling irritable, I would give him this to help the inflammation. We do not use Tylenol, so this was a great help. I think they really helped him. This brand also has a variety of other medicines for things like cold and flu.

I truly believe what we put on our skin and in our bodies matter. I encourage you to talk to your husband so that you are on the same page about being diligent to find the best brands of personal care products that will provide what you need and be healthy for you and your children.
