Be Your Husband’s Number One Fan

bob-estherGrowing up, I always knew my mom was cheering me on in everything. She always said she was my number one fan and she definitely was. She was pretty much everyone’s number one fan. She always believed in people and looked for the best. I tend to be super positive and give everyone the benefit of the doubt as well and believe I have my mom to thank for that.

When it comes to marriage, I think as wives it’s our biggest weapon against the enemy. Satan loves to beat our men up and try to tear them down. We must be our husbands’ number one fans. If we aren’t, someone else will.

Think back to your wedding day… at the moment when you said “I do” you saw your husband with everything he was and everything he could be. You believed in him without reserve and knew he was a good man with a good heart. I’m sure you reminded your husband-to-be about his accomplishments, characteristics, and everything that you loved about him.

I remember using the phrase “Why do you think I married you?” quite often as a newlywed. It was my reasoning behind just about everything from my husband being a man of God, to him being able to open a stubborn jar lid for me, to believing my hubby will be such a cute old man. He would do something wonderful and no matter how small, silly or ridiculous it was I always responded with “Why do you think I married you?”

My point was that all the little things I loved about him were the reasons I married him. I was his number one fan, without a doubt. When he failed, I knew he would find a way to succeed. When he fell down, I knew he was strong enough to stand again. When he would dream big, I’d believe right along with him. Not because I wanted to butter him up, but because I truly believed I had the most amazing man ever.

Most of you have felt that way at one time or another with your husband. Maybe it comes easily still, but maybe others of you have a harder time pushing through disappointments and hurts to see the man you married. Maybe that man seems lost.

1 Samuel 16:7b, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Think about the heart of the man you married and pray for him! That good man you married lies right there, in his heart. If all seems lost (and I know what that feels like) just pray for your man’s heart! There is hope. There is always hope.

King David in the Bible was a wonderful man. He first appears in the Bible with so much faith, enough to slay Goliath with a couple stones and a sling shot. He goes on to do many amazingly good and shockingly bad things, including committing adultery and murder. Can you even imagine?! But even after all the horrible things he did, God tells us that David was a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22).

Amazing! And its because God was David’s number one fan. He loved David completely and believed in him. We wives need to remember God’s example here and believe in the man God has given us. Be your husband’s number one fan! Remember what you love about him, believe in him and tell him. He is a good man.

After all, why do you think you married him?
