I know lot’s of things.
I know that donuts are not good for me at all, but I eat them regardless. I know that drinking coffee on an empty stomach can produce ulcers or worse, yet I still drink it. I know that the Bible commands me to love my wife like Christ, giving myself up for her daily and yet I am often selfish and far from Christ-like toward her.
See, I know lot’s of things, but I am not wise. Wisdom is the action I take based on the knowledge I have. No, I am not wise; I have proven over and over that I am just a fool.
But I don’t have to be a fool and neither do you.
We all crave knowledge, but how many of us crave wisdom? The Bible tells us to gain wisdom at any cost, to find it by any means. Wisdom is the most valuable asset we could ever acquire in life, and it is given generously to us by God when we ask Him for it.
Here are three ways to become a wiser husband:
- Ask God For It
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” – James 1:5
- Read the Bible.
Reading the Bible can be very intimidating. Where do I start? How much should I read and how often? I suggest daily. An easy way to start is in Proverbs the book of wisdom. There are 31 chapters; that means you can read one every day. Today I read proverbs 15. - Find A Mentor
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17
Finding an Older and more mature Christian to mentor you would be very beneficial in your chase for wisdom. This mentor should be allowed to correct you and encourage you.
As husbands let’s ask for wisdom and let’s pursue it relentlessly. Let’s act in the knowledge God has given us in His Word.
Your pursuit of wisdom won’t be easy, but it is worth it.
