I am so excited to be kicking off this first week of the Marriage Series with Revive Your Prayers In Marriage!
There are many benefits to praying for your marriage. Here are 3 benefits of prayers in marriage that I have experienced:
1. Prayer Diffuses Conflicts
I can personally testify that prayer helps diffuse conflict. There have been many times in my marriage when my husband or I are arguing, we are prideful, and we are frustrated. If one of us suggests that we stop and pray, the Holy Spirit immediately begins to soften our hearts, while bringing peace to the situation.
Try it: The next time you and your husband are arguing, suggest prayer and see how quickly resolution comes!
2. Prayer Gives Perspective
Often times in my marriage relationship, my husband and I think very differently. I will not admit to who thinks right or who thinks wrong, the truth is that we are different; our gender, our upbringing, and our attitudes all play a role in how we think. If we are struggling to get on the same page about an issue in our marriage, we take time to pray. We ask God to align our thoughts with His… and He is faithful to redirect our perspectives!
Try it: If you find yourself getting frustrated because your husband is thinking differently than you, pray that God would transform your thoughts and give you both the correct perspective.
3. Prayer Builds Intimacy
There are many ways for a husband and wife to be intimate in marriage. My husband and I have come to appreciate the intimacy we share when we pray together. Our hearts become open and vulnerable as we pray to God, and we get a glimpse into each other’s lives that normally would never be recognized. Through our prayers we make ourselves known to each other in a unique way, a way that is beautiful, a way that is honorable before God.
Try it: Before you go to bed or in the morning to get your day started, ask your husband if he would like to pray with you!
There are many bible verses that encourage us to pray! One that I absolutely love that has great value for the way we view our marriage is this:
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
This verse is a great reminder to have an attitude of thankfulness and joy toward your spouse and to pray for your spouse!
This week’s challenge is all about prayers in marriage!
We are encouraging everyone to pray for their marriage and pray for their husband this week. Be intentional about praying daily and remember to listen for God to respond!
If you do not feel comfortable praying or want to know how to pray I offer a Prayer Of The Day For Wives & Marriage which you can subscribe to below! You can use these to pray over your marriage, or use them as an example to guide your own prayer!
