In 2007 my husband and I joined a missionary team in Zambia, Africa. The base we stayed on sat on the edge of the Zambezi River. There was a trail that led down the cliff side to the rapids below. It took me a few days to gather the courage to attempt the hike, and then it came! My husband and I headed down the rocky trail without knowing what to expect.
Here we are with a few other risk takers, our friend Bob smiling behind us. This was taken a few minutes into the hike down the gorge.
Although I look quite peaceful here, my mind was racing with fear. The sun was setting and we had to begin our ascent back up the cliff side. I didn’t think I would make it to the top, knowing how much energy I used hiking down. My muscles were already shaking from shock.
Marriage can often feel like that. As husbands and wives experience adventures together, they also encounter hardships. Some trials threaten marriage so severely it seems impossible to stay together.
Yet, God says in His Word:
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
When we are weak, Christ’s power is made perfect! That is powerful!
