Bring To The Light That Which Is In Darkness – Ephesians 5:11-14

Genesis 3:8 “They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”

When I was reading this chapter the other day, verse 8 stuck out to me. I wanted to share it with you and pose a question… Are you and your husband hiding from God because of sin?

People avoid God all the time. Sin keeps them entangled in bondage, while shame and guilt keep them right there in the heat of it. Yet God says in Ephesians 5:11-14

“Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even  expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, “ Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.”

It is imperative for us to drag our sin into the light, so that God can set us free from it. We have to be willing to let it go. Some people struggle to see what sins they have in their life, if you struggle with this you need to open up the bible and start reading. When you spend time with God he will reveal it to you and help you through the healing process. But if you hide from Him and reject Him then eventually your sin will destroy you and your marriage. Romans 6:23 states “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The free gift of living in freedom, close to God and set apart from sin, comes through grace. God loves you very much and desires you to be with Him in eternity. He also desire for you to have a healthy and righteous marriage.

My husband and I had sin that was brought into our marriage. It crippled us as individuals and hindered our marriage from growing deeper. Embarrassment and shame kept us silent for many years, but once we opened up with each other and acknowledged the sin, we prayed and asked God to help us eliminate it. A verse that encouraged us to communicate to one another was James 5:16 “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed.” If sin is master in your life or in your marriage, keeping you hidden from God’s presence, surrender yourself in prayer, expose the sin, and then witness the healing process.
