Today I am sharing a testimony from a man who is learning what it means to be a Godly husband. He shares what God is teaching him about the tongue and the power it has. If we are going to be men of the word and Husbands After God then one of the things we must learn is to control our tongue.

Garrett Writes…
Men, can you go 24 hours without saying a hurtful word? How about 48? Are you speaking the Hope, Light, and Life of Christ into everyone you cross paths with?
Most importantly are you speaking life to your wife, does she feel safe and comforted by your words?
I’ll admit this has been a big issue for me the last week. I’ve had an anger in my heart and unfortunately my wife took the brunt of it. I found myself yelling at her, or just saying hurtful or nasty things for no reason.
The enemy is on the hunt for your marriages, and he has the perfect weapon to begin to erode the foundation of it. He has plenty of weapons out there, but none as powerful as the tongue.
In James 3:5-6 the tongue is compared to a tiny spark that’ll ignite a forrest. The verse goes on to say “it corrupts the whole body, and sets the whole course of one’s life on fire.” So this morning I turned my struggle over and laid it at the foot of the cross.
I encourage you to do the same, search your heart, recall your interactions from this week. Have you spoken out of anger or frustration? If so, repent, and join me in the challenge of taming your tongue and going this entire weekend only speaking Hope, Light, and Life to all those you encounter, especially with your wife.
Heavenly Father, I pray that we as men be filled so full of Your love and joy we can’t help but to share it with everyone we come contact with, especially our wives. Lord, help us to control our tongue, help us to speak only encouraging and loving words to those in our care. I pray that we are set on fire. Not by our tongues or the words they speak, but by You! May we live a life on fire for Your honor and glory. Father, give us strength, make us strong enough to break and turn our careless words over to You. Lord, we repent of the hurtful, nasty, and rude things we’ve spoken. So be it, AMEN!”
“Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”- James 3:5-6
